‼️Action Needed: Rooftop Solar Bill

Contact lawmakers & testify

Hi there,

Our first bill of the legislative session — SB 189 (Net Metering Energy Amendments) — will be heard this Thursday (2/8) in the Senate Transportation, Public Utilities, Energy, and Technology Committee.

We need your help to testify in the committee hearing and contact committee members!

How can you help?

Testify in person at the committee hearing on Thursday, February 8. We will meet at the Capitol at 12:30 p.m. and prep you with all of the knowledge to testify.

If you would like to testify in person (or virtually), please reply to this email and we'll provide more details.

We also need community members to email each member of the Senate Transportation Committee asking them to support SB 189.

Here is an example email (feel free to copy or write your own — talking points below!).

Please support SB 189.

Utahns install rooftop solar to save money on utilities and reduce their carbon footprint, but Rocky Mountain Power is not fairly compensating us for the energy we generate from rooftop solar.

SB 189 would fairly credit customers for excess solar-generated energy, making solar more accessible for all Utahns. Additionally, it will provide market stability so residents are paying the same rate year-to-year and can make the best financial decisions.

Please vote in the best interest of Utahns and our health.

About the Bill

  • SB 189 requires Rocky Mountain Power to fairly credit residents for generating excess energy through rooftop solar.

  • Rocky Mountain Power has monopolized the energy market and does not provide full retail rates to residents for energy they send back to the grid. If you have solar panels, Rocky Mountain Power only credits you about half the retail rate before selling it back to your neighbors for double.

  • Utahns must be compensated appropriately and incentivized to install rooftop solar — one of the most effective ways of reducing our carbon footprint and lowering utility bills.

  • SB 189 would fairly credit customers for excess solar-generated energy, making solar more accessible for all Utahns.

With less than a month remaining in the legislative session, it's crunch time as we work to pass SB 189 and other bills addressing emissions from transportation and point sources.

Your support goes directly to our time on the Hill as we educate lawmakers and advocate for bold air quality legislation.

When you Give Clean Air, we Pass Clean Air.
